If you purchased a yarn tasting kit you will have a mini skein of each of the yarns we are featuring today as well as a pattern to try them out. Don't forget your yarn tasting kit comes with a coupon code for purchasing yarn featured during the tasting!'
We have organized all of the digital resources for this yarn tasting in specific pages on our website. View a separate page for each yarn featuring yarn description and specifics, color cards, suggested patterns.
This tasting is organized in our On-Line store in 2 ways: you can purchase yarn by the individual skein, or you can purchase kits to create the featured projects for the tasting.
Suggested Tasting Procedure
We recommend that you create a swatch with your yarns using a variety of needles. During the In-House Tasting we usually create sample swatches on Lykke Driftwood Needles as well as ChiaoGoo Lace tip needles. Those who prefer Crochet work on a variety of hook styles. Match needle sizes to the yarn as recommended in your menu and even try working on several sizes per yarn.
Analyze your swatches: Check for changes in gauge between needles of the same size but different material/tip. Also note how you may prefer a certain needle style for a certain yarn and hate another!
Don’t forget that when you swatch you should always cast on MORE than the gauge itself. Meaning if the gauge says “21 stitches and 29 rows over 4 inches” you should cast on around 30 stitches and knit for about 35 rows, you should then be able to measure a 4” block INSIDE your knitted swatch and count your stitches and rows to check gauge. Failure to do this will effect your gauge as things like Cast-On edge and turning will change the size of stitches.
We would like to see what you thought of these yarns and use that information to make ordering decisions in the future. If you don’t mind sharing with us take a picture of the comment cards when you are done or scan them to your computer and e-mail them to us at firstname.lastname@example.org
